### Scotland's Only Representative in a Remarkable Collection of Historic Hotels

At **The Selkirk Arms Hotel in Kirkcudbright**, we're immensely proud of our history, our heritage and the wonderful stories that have unfolded within our walls over the centuries.

## A Little Scottish Hotel with a Big History

Our story begins in **1760**, when the Selkirk Arms was built by the Earl of Selkirk in the picturesque artists' town of Kirkcudbright, overlooking the beautiful countryside of Dumfries & Galloway.

More than 260 years later, our historic hotel continues to welcome travellers, just as it has done for generations.

But perhaps our most famous connection is with Scotland's national bard, **Robert Burns**.

In 1794, Burns visited the Selkirk Arms, where he is famously associated with the *Selkirk Grace*, those immortal words that remain part of Scottish culture and tradition to this day:

*Some hae meat and canna eat,* 
*And some wad eat that want it;* 
*But we hae meat, and we can eat,* 
*Sae let the Lord be thankit.*

It's a wonderful piece of history to have associated with our hotel, and a story we love sharing with guests from around the world.
